Max May & Jade Tunchy

We were incredibly excited last week to introduce our new Creamy Matte Lipstick collection with an evening of Masterclasses hosted by our Make-up Ambassador, Max May.

The event took place in Sydney, and we were joined by a group of influencers and content creators who all had the opportunity to try the complete Creamy Matte Lipstick collection, watch as Max created different lip looks with the gorgeous Jadé Tunchy as his model, and share in Max's top tips for achieving the perfect matte lip.

We chatted with Max at the event to hear more about the Creamy Matte Lipstick, discover his tips for lip shades to wear this Autumn and Winter, and the best ways to look after your lips. Read our chat below:

NbN: You’re loving the Creamy Matte Lipsticks because…

Max: I love them because of their performance. I love the creaminess of them, how true they are to colour, and I love that they wear really beautifully. They don’t get dry on the lips. Overall, as a creamy matte lipstick they’re a really high performer.

NbN: Do you have any favourite shades yet from the collection?

Max: I’ve got a few. My favourite colours are the nude and anything peach tone just because I find them really forgiving on everybody no matter your age or colour tone. I’m going to go ahead and say number 01 which is the Blush Nude and number 04 which is the Peach.

NbN: For Autumn and Winter, which we’re hitting at the moment, what colours and shades do you think are super on trend?

Max: Well, I’m going to completely contrast what I just said then, and say with this seasons trends I would probably go more deeper in tone, which is the top end of the Creamy Matte Lipstick range. The Plums, the 08 Cerise - is a heavier more Autumn type shade. The way I would probably balance that, as a little wearing tip, is to add blush and something in a lighter, brighter tone so that you don’t look too dark, or too gothic or old.

NbN: Your top beauty hack for lipstick application is…

Max: It’s a tough one because it would depend on the colour you’re using or your skin type. I would probably say the best overall one would be to prime the lip whether you’re using a nude or a bright colour or a really deep colour. You want to keep the lip hydrated and plump, i.e. the lip looking as full as possible. Using a primer beforehand, is going to hydrate the lip plus it’s going to trap the moisture underneath the primer and the lipstick so that it lasts longer and looks more plump.

NbN: Lip scrubs. What’s your thoughts?

Max: I love a lip scrub. I think that you should use them every day. It just keeps the lips nice and plump and smooth. I use everything from lip scrubs to even hot towel or face cloth in the shower just to keep the skin nice and smooth there.

NbN: The key point of difference with the Nude by Nature Lip Collection is that it’s free from nasties like Carmine, Petroleum Wax, Coal Tar Dyes, Silicones or synthetics. Do you think that people would be pretty freaked out to know that Carmine is a red pigment which is derived from insects, and it’s often used as a colourant to make lipsticks more red?

MaxYes, I think people would. I don’t think that everybody knows that’s where it comes from. I guess when you do break it down, and people do find out where it’s coming from, it can be quite scary.

NbN: Lucky last question! How are you finding everything going with Nude by Nature so far - our collab and partnership? Are you enjoying it?

Max: It’s been good. Today’s kind of my first, I guess, big role in the sense that I am representing the brand showing the media of Sydney a new product. So, today is kind of a big step forward and an exciting one that I am really looking forward to not only doing but getting done because it’s always a little nerve racking leading in. Hoping that everyone is going to get something out of my knowledge, but I feel really good about it and I really like the product.
